Dear lovely readers,
I know I have been a bit MIA recently, but I was quite busy designing a brand new brooch line! And I am so happy to be able to finally share it with you all.
A little bit of background information… the Craft Brooch Line is a collection of brooches that is particularly close to my heart as it recognizes the Australia Black Summer. For those of you not familiar with the Australia Black Summer, it refers to a period of intense bushfires around Australia that began in June 2019, and lasted for almost a year. The bushfire season in 2019 began quite early (usually begins in June) due to exceptional dry conditions, and a lack of soil moisture.
As a result of the fires, an estimated 18.6 million hectares were burnt, over 5,900 buildings were destroyed, and at least 34 people were killed. Not to mention, over 3 billion vertebrates, such as bob cats, sugar gliders, guinea pigs, koalas, kangaroos, and many types of reptiles were affected. Some of these animals that were already endangered are now believed to have been driven to extinction.
In light of this tragedy, I wanted to bring the attention back to this horrific event to remind people that climate change is real. And if we don’t cooperate and do our small part in curbing the disaster, our future generations will not stand a chance. And by future generations I am referring to all living species.
A portion of the sale proceeds from this line will be donated to Bush Heritage Australia - https://www.bushheritage.org.au/
